Traveling in the United States these days can be fraught with challenges for anyone who cares deeply about human and environmental health and wellness.

In too many states too many public policies directly harm women, children, people of color, indigenous families, LGBTQ+ individuals, the economically disadvantaged, immigrants, voting rights, books, wolves, water, and wetlands. Civil liberties, the environment, and public health are under attack as well. Not to mention guns, Social Security, healthcare, and the climate crisis.

And wherever you travel your travel dollars support the state and local economy and therefore the policies of the places you go.

Which is why at Offsets for Humanity, we found a way to fight back.

Make Your Travel Moral

Offset your travel today.

Every time you travel, Offsets for Humanity allows you to neutralize your economic impact by providing support to carefully selected locally based nonprofit or advocacy groups who are on the frontline advocating for people or the planet.

All you need to do is choose your destination, your issue, and your Offset amount, and our safe financial transaction hub will guide you through.

How Does It Work?

Modeled on carbon offsets but with more immediate results, Offsets for Humanity draws attention to pressing areas of social or environmental concern that are in dire need of attention and invites travelers to provide funds that can be directed to “offset” those issues.

Offsets then provides those funds to trusted nonprofit and advocacy organizations who work effectively on those issues and deliver results. This pairing enables travelers to offset issues they care about in the places where they travel and empower organizations in real time and sustain them. The more Offsets people make, the more the advocates can accomplish.

Offsets for Humanity is also an educator and advocate, and offers travelers information on the issues. Offsets’ blog and social media feature news, stories, and statistics that enrich travelers’ knowledge and provide ways to more deeply engage on the issues.

Facts and Figures

In 2023, domestic and international travelers spent $1.3 trillion in the United States which produced an economic footprint of $2.8 billion.

In 2022, over $120 billion was spent in Florida alone where it contributed more than $16 billion to local coffers in a state where on the ground advocates are working to end the death penalty, Don’t Say Gay, manatee loss, and the disgraceful distortion of America’s racial history.

If every one of the 135 million visitors there offset their impact by just $10 last year, local advocates would have had $1.35 billion with which they could advocate.

Contribute an offset today and help abolish the death penalty, protect manatees, prevent the rollback of child labor protections, ensure truthful education about Black history, and advance LGBTQ+ rights.

While Offsets for Humanity is not tax exempt and offset purchases through Offsets are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for Federal tax purposes, Offsets’ unique funding model puts much needed general operating dollars into the hands of the people who need it.

Offsets for Humanity’s mission is made possible by an Impact Fee that helps cover the cost of identifying trustworthy organizations and matching them with travelers who wish to help.

We are truly grateful for your support

About Us

The mission of Offsets for Humanity is to enhance and support civil rights, human rights and environmental protections throughout the country by building awareness and securing financial support for locally based nonprofits and advocacy groups who are on the frontline working to educate, advocate, and provide leadership to protect people and the planet.

  • Offsets for Humanity achieves its mission through a comprehensive national offset program that connects travelers to pressing issues in the areas they visit. In doing so, Offsets for Humanity allows them to make a financial contribution, or Offset Donation that "offsets" the negative economic impacts of their travel.

By addressing local concerns through targeted financial support and educating travelers, the program ensures that each journey contributes positively to the destination's social and environmental well-being.

  • Offsets for Humanity’s mission is made possible by an Impact Fee that helps cover the cost of identifying trustworthy organizations and matching them with travelers who wish to help.

We are truly grateful for your support.

  • The travel and tourism industry in the United States is a $2.8 trillion powerhouse with $1.3 trillion in direct spending. If just .01% of travelers chose to offset their trips, an astounding $220 million could be raised annually. These funds would directly support the rights and needs of marginalized groups, including people of color, Native Americans, inner city children, immigrants, the economically disadvantaged, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Additionally, contributions would aid in preserving and protecting clean water, clean air, public lands, and wildlife, significantly enhancing both human and environmental health.

  • Our program is organized on a state-by-state basis, making it simple for travelers to identify where their contributions are most needed. This structure allows for a tailored approach, addressing specific local issues and providing support where it can make the most significant impact. Travelers can easily see the opportunities for making a difference, no matter where their journey takes them.

  • By opting to offset their travel, individuals can support organizations that are actively engaged in protecting people, wildlife, and the planet. These Offset Donations provide much-needed income to local nonprofits and advocacy groups, enabling them to be more nimble, strategic, and effective in their work. Travelers' offsets ensure these organizations can continue to educate, advocate, and lead in their critical fields, driving meaningful change on the ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Modeled on carbon offsets but with more immediate results, Offsets for Humanity pairs travelers with trusted and established organizations specific to the state or states they are visiting who deliver results against policies of the traveler’s concern.

Each state has five Offset Areas, empowering organizations to address issues in real time, and sustaining them with unrestricted income the way that too many traditional foundations don’t. The more people make Offsets the more the organizations can do.

Offsets for Humanities is also an educator and an advocate, and offers travelers information on the issues. Offsets’ blog and social media feature stories and information that enrich travelers’ knowledge and provide avenues to more deeply engage.

  • Offsets for Humanity, LLC is a low-profit limited liability company (LC3) whose mission is to educate travelers to our country's pressing issues and provide financial support civil rights, human rights and environmental protections throughout the country by securing financial support for locally based nonprofits and advocacy groups who are on the frontline working to educate, advocate, and provide leadership to protect people and the planet.

  • Travel within the United States has an economic footprint of $2.8 trillion a year industry. According to the Alabama Tourist Industry Economic Report, almost 29 million people spent $23.5 billion visiting Alabama alone in 2023, where recently the state government secured approval for the use of nitrogen hypoxia to kill people on death row, a method usually reserved for turkeys and chickens. The same year, 135 million people spent $101.9 billion visiting Florida, another death penalty state which has also been rewriting school curriculum to erase African American history and the evils of slavery. In Georgia, where they have been working hard to throw people of color off the voter rolls, 159.6 million travelers spent $64.5 billion.

With national and international travelers no longer restricted by pandemic shut downs, the Travel and Tourism market is expected to continue to grow.

Offsets for Humanities only needs to redirect a fraction of those dollars to make a significant difference in our ongoing fight for good.

  • To support frontline organizations, Offsets for Humanity requests Offset Donations at $10 per offset. You can purchase one or more Offsets on one or more issues—and you do not even need to be traveling to do it!

One hundred percent of your Offset Donation goes directly to helping state-based, topic specific advocates dedicated to the issue, or issues, you choose.

A separate 5% of your total Offset Donation goes to Offsets for Humanity as an Impact Fee to cover the hundreds of hours of issue research, qualifying organizations, payment processing, and operational expenses.

Therefore for just $10.50 or $105 or $1050, you help contribute meaningful funds to the advocates and support the organization that makes it possible.

The more you give, the more you help build stronger more righteous societies and greater ecological health.
